'Designing for Speed'
A Guest talk at 'Creating better products' by Sabrina Mach
Podcast: Creating better products
The Series 'Creating better products' is a podcast by Sabrina Mach that explores real-world stories from product leaders. Their successes, failures, lessons learned. It aims to give practical tips that one can apply tomorrow to create better products.
About the talk
Speed is something many teams seek. Let it be the wish to be 'high performing' or delivering faster or a requirement from high above. Yet speed is not simply good for speed sake. Success in delivery has its foundation on building the right things and building it right.
In this talk I speak on my experience what it can achieve when spending meaningful time to empower the team to deliver real value - faster than before.
Speed by not rushing but by working smarter, with clarity and purpose.
Quote from the Creating better Products Website:
"This conversation reframed how I think about speed.
We talk about delivery pressure all the time - but here's the thing:
👉 You can't sprint your way out of systemic confusion.
👉 True speed starts with shared understanding, emotional trust and knowing what not to build.
Johanna's story isn't just inspiring - it's deeply practical with significant impact. Her team cut delivery time from 3 months to 3 weeks, not by adding velocity, but by designing alignment. That shift made me rethink what "fast" actually means."
Using design skills to build high-performing teams
In the design community we often speak about a lack of understanding between the teams and designer. Many are frustrated that they can not apply their skills and that they see potential that the team has not.
In this talk I want to not talk about the frustrations but potential - how we can apply our skills and help business and tech to identify what we can bring to the table. And by 'we' I mean anyone who brings design skills into a team.
